ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic aim is to capture the everyday moments of life through the use of poetic brushwork, intentional compositional choices and a strong focus on the subtle nuances of natural light across various subjects. In the studio I paint in a spontaneous fashion using a mix of methods i’ve learned from Plein Air and Alla Prima painting. Following the natural direction the painting desires to go I finish a painting in one painting session. I have found that painting this way, Alla Prima, I can stay in and therefore better represent the moment I am trying to capture.

My art has been described as tonalist, impressionist, luminist and representational. I do not fight any of these descriptions as those have been the descriptions of artworks that have inspired me most. No matter what you define my artwork as I hope you find beauty in it, either from the subject itself or the way I depict it.
